Nap of the day is Cloud Forest in the 7.50 at Kempton

Wednesday’s racing is exclusively on the Flat, with five meetings scheduled in the UK and Ireland. The action gets under way at Brighton at 2.30pm, a slightly later start than usual.

My three horse racing tips for today all run in the evening, with two at Yarmouth and one at Kempton. Take a look at my best bets below, then read on for more analysis of my selections.

6.10 Yarmouth – Class 4 Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (6f)

This is a very average-looking maiden, so it would be very disappointing if Speed Of Sound failed to get off the mark at the third time of asking.

Richard Spencer’s filly has been placed in both her starts, but more improvement was possibly expected of her at Ascot last time. She achieved no more than when third on debut, having been sent off as favourite for the race at the July Festival.

This daughter of Sioux Nation paid for being too keen last time out, but I am hopeful that she will be more professional on her third career run.

Today’s rivals have achieved nowhere near the level of form that Speed Of Sound has shown. She may not need to improve to win this – so if she does, we could see a very comfortable victory.

Selection: 6.10pm Yarmouth – Speed Of Sound ⭐⭐⭐

6.40 Yarmouth – Class 4 Nursery Handicap (5f)

Handicap debutant Dowman is likely be a warm order for the red-hot combination of jockey Billy Loughnane and handler George Boughey, especially since the two-year-old was gelded after his victory at Windsor in June.

However, I thought Dubai Charm was incredibly impressive when making a winning start in handicap company over course and distance last month, and she is taken to complete a double.

This daughter of Blackbeard out of Arabic Charm had finished down the field at Royal Ascot over 6f on her previous start, so trainer Richard Hughes’ decision to drop her back to the minimum trip immediately paid dividends.

That was Dubai Charm’s second run at Yarmouth, having placed here on her second start, also over 6f. A 7lb rise for her victory is unlikely to stop her, and I think she has plenty more to offer.

Selection: 6.40pm Yarmouth – Dubai Charm ⭐⭐⭐

7.50 Kempton – Class 3 Novice Stakes (1m 3f)

Wednesday’s bet of the day comes from the suburban Surrey venue, where Cloud Forest (nap) can score for Saeed bin Suroor and champion jockey Oisin Murphy.

This is only the third career start for the four-year-old. He did not make his debut until this May, so has clearly had some problems keeping him off the track.

I think the Blue Point gelding can start making up for lost time. He showed fair improvement from a lacklustre first outing to finish runner-up last time, with the form boosted by the fourth-placed horse subsequently scoring.

Cloud Forest was only headed in the closing stages on that occasion, but he battled on gamely, so there is no reason to believe that the extra furlong in tonight’s contest will pose any difficulties.

It will not be easy to concede weight to the majority of his rivals, courtesy of the three-year-old allowance they receive, but I suspect our pick is up to the task. He could prove to be a decent horse in time.

Selection: 7.50pm Kempton – Cloud Forest (nap) ⭐⭐⭐
