Jesse Watters turned a discussion about parental involvement into a self-deprecating story about landing his job at Fox News.
During the latest episode of The Five when asked what level of parental intervention was appropriate, Watters replied, "A large donation. I mean that's how I got the job at Fox. My mom drove me into the city. She barged right into the interview room and she said, Please hire my son. He's not skilled and he needs health insurance. And they took pity on me. And look where I ended up."
The remark continued the Fox host’s exchanges with his mother, Anne Purvis, a Democrat whose politics clash with his commentary. Watters has used that contrast as material on The Five. This comes as Jesse was recently dubbed a "liar" by viewers as he "peddles toxic warfare" with Ted Cruz.

In one segment, he disclosed that his mother had joined a No Kings protest opposing President Donald Trump.
"I know my mom was there," Watters told his co-hosts. When Greg Gutfeld reacted with surprise, Watters added, "Can you believe my mom was there? Sometimes I think I was adopted."
He then argued that anti-Trump demonstrators were more motivated by the president than by any single issue.

"They do these things: the Women's March, BLM, the Musk stuff. The issues change, but the one thing that stays the same is Trump,” Watters said. “They think this guy's like crack cocaine."
Watters has described political disagreements with his mother. Following Trump’s election victory, he said he had not been invited to Thanksgiving at her home.
"I'll have you know that I was not invited to my mother's house for Thanksgiving. Apparently, there wasn't enough room," he said. "She said it was a scheduling situation and then, at the last second, invited me to come over on Black Friday. I told her, 'No thanks, I'll be at Best Buy.'"

"My mom is celebrating. She texted me that she was dancing after the verdict. Dancing. And then she kept all day sending me 34, 34, 34 felony counts," he said. "She's a grandmother. She's a grandmother! Get it together, Mom! Oh my God!"
Purvis has also called into her son’s program to offer advice. During his 2023 prime-time debut, she warned him against conspiracies and legal trouble.
"Do not tumble into any conspiracy rabbit holes. We do not want to lose you and we want no lawsuits," she said. "In keeping with the Hippocratic Oath, do no harm. We need you to be kind and respectful."
Watters thanked her before ending the call as she began discussing dinner plans, telling viewers, "This is just like how things are at home."
