Zach Creeger's follow-up feature movie, Weapons, celebrates its first anniversary.
Creeger was part of the sketch comedy group, The Whitest Kids U' Know, for about 11 years, when the team ended in 2011. On September 9, 2022, he frightened audiences with his low-budget survival thriller, Barbarian, starring Georgina Campbell and Bill Skarsgård. Then, on August 8 2025, Creeger showed off his dark humor in Weapons, as he amassed a larger budget with Hollywood stars such as Julia Garner and Josh Brolin.
However, it was Amy Madigan who stole the movie with her wild performance as the color-clashing, eccentric Aunt Gladys. This came after James Cameron's blockbuster Aliens sequel recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.

When all but one child from the same classroom mysteriously vanish on the same night at the same time. An angry community, including schoolteacher Justine Grady (Julia Garner) and father Archer Graff (Josh Brolin), searches for the missing children on their own terms. They attempt to find out who or what is behind their disappearance.
But no one suspects the kids are being held hostage in the basement of Aunt Gladys. Although she is loud in her clothing and endearing in her elderly voice, Glady is a witch who has used dark magic in an attempt to gain immortality.

Ahead of the Oscars, the Field of Dreams actress explained what made the character interesting for her. She shared her thoughts on the villainous character's specific look.

The star told Backstage on February 3, "I think Gladys thinks she looks great. She’s very particular about her look—what earrings she has, what brooch she has on, how she applies her makeup. It’s not just slapped on. It’s precisely how she wants it to be.

"I wish I had her confidence in my day-to-day life. She knows what she has to do. She will not be deterred from that," she closed.
On March 15, Madigan accepted the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and thanked the director in her speech.
She said, "First and foremost, I just have to thank Zach Cregger, our writer and director. He just wrote a dream part, and I just grabbed it by the throat. And, um, we had a ball."

Weapons has a 93 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
One reviewer said, "Weapons blends elegance with sheer dread, crafting a horror experience that swings between jaw-dropping brutality and eerie quiet."
Another reviewer added, "Take a bow, Amy Maddigan. Weapons is as alarmingly amusing as it is deeply disturbing on a DNA level."
A third wrote, "Cregger’s film takes a disgustingly gory turn with demented Aunt Gladys having fun casting horrific evil while everyone’s trying to find the kids. Garner, Brolin, but particularly Amy Madigan, weaponize their talent to keep you guessing to the end.
